Facebook is too big

I left Facebook more for fears of how they failed to address privacy than other reasons, though those other factors for which Facebook constantly faces criticism did play a part.

To know that a report which it instigated reinforces that some of the issues society today faces are driven by how Facebook works, only makes me more focused on staying out of its way.

This article by the BBC highlights that far from being a saint, Facebook is a sinner of the worst kind. That, as at that time, 990 or more companies are boycotting Facebook advertising because of how it operates, only corroborates that perspective.

Facebook is great for maintaining contact with friends, but there are other ways.

I’d love to find a way to help and connect with others that is about cooperation, not segregation. About consideration for others, not self-aggrandisement. For the whole of society, not individuals or elitist groups – regardless of political affiliation.

Some of my more avid readers and my close friends, possibly one and the same person, know that I adore John Finnemore’s comedy.

I also like “My teenage diary”, so this combination of those two form favourites was going to be a must listen item.

i was not wrong.

Even at age 19 his sharp wit was in place, though like a lot of us boys only grammar school attendees, he clearly didn’t know when the girls liked him.

i share this because it deserves sharing, and because I think I see more of a shared character, even though he’s clearly better at being funny than me.

Sorted some wedding photos today

So, I have just spent a few hours, well, it should have been less, but I messed up on something simple, getting a page of photos completed for a couple I know.
The link is here: http://www.rmpaterson.com/wedding.htm
Feel free to peruse but I’ve not linked it back to all the pages – yet.
Enjoy.

A lovely weekend in Salisbury

This weeekend is a joint birthday for my two best friends, Averil and Kerstin.

Unfortunately I was unable to see Kerstin due to family illness affecting her and her daughter, the Munchkin, but had a great time meeting Av, Row and friends including Helen who’s birthday was Star Wars day 🙂

Check out some photos I took with the phone below.

Busy day

I had planned to do some posts, some automated. (You mean you thought I posted all of these “live”?) Unfortunately work didn’t allow me much time to think today.

It was fun doing a GDPR based workshop answering various questions both about the legislation and how were working to address it. More of that to come.

The rest of the day was head down in my comms role, with a brief journey home, which was superbly pleasantly interrupted by a call from Kerstin which allowed us half an hour to catch up on all sorts and organise a meet up on her birthday in May.

Then more GDPR and comms calls and finally sit down to eat whilst watching Never go back (Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher) which is a brilliantly way to end such a day.

Now for a settle down with a good book and then sleep.

Good night y’all.
